Dubwath Silver Meadows |

The Dubwath site is traditionally wet and regularly floods. Its peaty soils soak up water and then slowly release it, acting like a sponge. This gives it an important role in controlling the flow of water into Bassenthwaite Lake and flooding in the local area.
The site is also valuable in helping to improve the quality of water in Bassenthwaite Lake by acting as a natural storage area where silt and damaging nutrients, such as nitrates and phosphates, can be filtered out of the water by plants like reeds before it enters the lake.
The site is managed by Dubwath Silver Meadows, but is leased from the landowner on and farmed by a local farmer. Public access is on a premissive basis. We work closely with the farmer to ensure the smooth running of the site.
Thanks to this partnership the site is free for visitors to enjoy and wildlife is thriving.
